How to Organise the Workplace?

A messy workplace has a huge impact on not just your productivity but also your own health. If the monitor of your PC is not aligned with your eye level, for example, you might have to slouch forward all the time while working, which is a very unhealthy sitting habit that can put a lot of strain on your spine and your neck. For this reason, if you wish to stay healthy even when sitting at your desk all the time at work, it is time to reorganise the workplace and to adjust a few things or two to make it friendlier to office workers.

A sleek workstation

It is true that reorganising the workplace can be a daunting task for some, but if you have the right guidance, it will become much easier to start your reorganising project. Here are some steps you should take.

Adjust the Height of Your Desk

The first thing you should do is to try and adjust the height of your desk so that the monitor of your PC aligns with your eye level. This is actually quite an important step because if the monitor is not on the same level as your eyes, you will have to slouch forward from time to time, which will have negative consequences on your posture in the long run.

This is one of the reasons why height-adjustable desks are getting more and more popular. These desks allow you to adjust their height until they are at an acceptable level, so they are really good options for offices where people have to share desks.

Alternatively, you could choose to get a monitor arm, which will allow you to change the height and the viewing angle of the monitor with just a simple click of a button. With a monitor arm, you will have more control over your workstation.

Pay Extra Attention to the Keyboard and Mouse

The keyboard and mouse are two objects that you are going to use a lot when working as an office worker, and these two objects can cause major issues. Prolonged use of the computer mouse and keyboard will put a lot of strain on your wrists, causing wrist pain and carpal tunnel syndrome. The sad truth is that most common keyboards and mice are not designed to offer you plenty of ergonomic benefits. You can change this by buying specifically designed mice and keyboards that will offer long-term comfort and even more adjustability, keeping wrist pain away from you.

The position of your keyboard and your mouse is also another important factor to take into account. You should always try to keep your keyboard within your arm’s reach so that you won’t have to move the arms away from its natural position. For the mouse, it would be better to position it as close to your body as possible. If this is still not possible, you can opt for a smaller keyboard with no Numpad if necessary.

Writing Slopes and Document Holders are Friends

For organising your workplace, few accessories are as useful as document holders. These pieces will allow you to organise documents by categories and by other common parameters, reducing clutters at your workplace. With document holders, you will be able to quickly find the files you need.

Writing slopes are also great ergonomic accessories that allow you to create and sign written documents on a slanting slope instead of a flat surface. Writing slopes will decrease the strain placed on your wrist, so they are particularly helpful against wrist pain as well as carpal tunnel syndrome, which most office workers struggle with.

Create a Cable Management System

Electronic devices require cables to run, but these cables are a major source of headaches for most office workers. Cables create a lot of clutter on your desk, and if the desk gets too cluttered, you will find it hard to navigate around and find the items you need. This is why it is important to put a cable management system in place. This system will help you to manage the cables and prevent clutters on your desk, ensuring that your hands will have plenty of places to move about.

Sitting properly and organising the workplace are two very important steps you will have to take in order to prevent common office conditions such as neck pain, back pain, and wrist pain.
